Welcome to the wonderfully weird journal of spn_croatoan.
I guess I should tell you a little about myself. Lost and supernatural are my favorite TV shows. Well, besides Heroes, but I've missed a lot of it because of work. My favorite movies are The Crow, Resident Evil, and The Bourne Identity. I'm one of the few people I've met who liked CLOVERFIELD, though I think it could've been done a little bit better. My favorite bands are The Used and My Chemical Romance, although Rise Against, John Butler Trio, Jack Johnson, Cat Empire, Beautiful Girls, Taking Back Sunday, and Josh Pyke are up there, too. If you don't like my taste in music, movies or television shows, don't criticize me. Everyone has their right to their own opinion, and I'm not really keen on slamming someone for their own opinions.
If you don't understand from my favourite artists/bands, my favorite styles of music are pop-punk, rock, reggae, chilled-out surf music, alternative, alternative-rock, etc. Though the Used and My Chemical Romance are usually classified as Emo, I don't listen to Emo, believe in it, or condone writst-cutting and/or self-harm. In MY opinion, and again, this is just my opinion, The Used and My Chemical Romance are NOT Emo, because firstly, Emo doesn't exist, and secondly, because they are not those types of bands who condone self harm, self mutilation, and the like. They do not want you to show your love for them by killing yourself or cutting your wrists or legs etc. Depression is a horrible disorder, and anyone with sucidal thoughts or feelings of the need to harm oneself should talk to someone or seek help. It's not healthy, and it can't end well.
My favorite movie/tv show styles are horror, thriller, and action. I like things that make you think. I prefer movies with a well thought-out plot, unless the movie is done well enough that it doesn't need to be plot-heavy. I also like movies with good costume design and artistic direction. Good sets, costumes, and props can do wonders for low-budget movies, even if the special effects are terrible :)
I love photography, and filming. I also love to write, draw, and paint. I am the only one in my immediate family who is heavily involved in the arts, especially in the visual arts side. My brother plays guitar, drums, and keyboard, and has a few videos on youtube. I am slowly learning guitar, and in tha past, have failed at learning the clarinet and flute. I would like to learn piano, drums, and guitar. I draw, paint, write, and screenprint. I like to design clothes, and would love to persue a career in it, if I could sew. I am currently thinking of persuing photography, either journalistic or nature, because I love it and it's one of the few things I am good at.
Onto my dislikes, and as I said, if you LIKE this stuff, I won't judge you, so PLEASE don't try to kick my ass about it. I DON'T like Justin Timberlake. I don't know him personally, and he'd probably be an alright guy, but I don't like his music. I don't like music by Backstreet Boys, Rihanna, ANY rap artist who doesn't actually sing, the Pussycat Dolls, and any other manufactured, sex-driven music. Music to me has a message. Anything that is purely about girlfriends, break-ups, sex and all that other stuff just isn't my thing. Bands with strong awareness of the world, as in JBT and The Cat Empire are brilliant at conveying their messages, and even if it's not your style, I suggest you check out their messages, because they truly are brilliant. If Afro-Cuban and Reggae aren't your thing, I totally understand; they have never really been mainstream types of music.
I guess you could call me absent-minded-yet-world-aware. I have my own opinions on politics, though I am slightly obsessive, so I usually hear things ages after they happen. I get extremely absorbed in books and television shows and movies, and can completely zone out at moments where others are talking to me. My favorite book at the moment is Rueters' STATE OF THE WORLD. PLEASE, if there's anything you ever do, read that book. It's not heavy reading, it's mostly a compilation of photographs, but it's hard-hitting stuff that you won't usually see on television or in magaizines and newspapers. It's a brilliant book, and features anything from Science and Technology to War and Politics, to Celebrities.
So, yeah. My closing statement is that I'm Australian, which I probably should have mentioned earlier, when you didn't get bored and think I was crazy and totally Obsessive Compulsive. So if my mannerisms or anything seem a little weird or off, it's because I come from the land down under, so yeah. Thanks for reading.
Peace
